Trail Day - support your local trails

SIOUXLAND SHADY BRADY SADDLE CLUB
TRAIL WORK DAY - Tues. June 9 - 5-8pm
I have some good news to share with you concerning the multi-use trails at Stone Park. On May 14th, Friends of Stone Park president Zac Chwirka picked up a check from Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) for $6,218. This grant money will be used to purchase materials and rent equipment for trail improvements. To date, the Friends have raised over $15,500 in cash donations and grants for trail improvements.

The State Parks bureau has faced some tough cuts in staff and operating budget over the last 6 months. Up until last week it looked like Stone Park would have only 2 part-time staff this summer. Late last week, the DNR announced we would be receiving 116 Americorps employees split up in state parks across Iowa. Stone State Park is in the process of hiring 5 Americorps Recovery employees. The job duties of these summer employees include general park maintenance, as well as trail maintenance.

We still need VOLUNTEERS! Please mark Tuesday, June 9th on your calendar. Weather permitting; we will work from 5-8 PM along the Mt. Lucia trail. Meet at the Wahkaw shelter. Wahkaw is located southeast of the Ranger Station. Bring gloves, drinking water and a shovel.
